Refresh Period

The Refresh Period is the length of time in which if the staff member does not do a turn in that position the competence will be considered 'lapsed'.

In a department that requires that their staff don't go more than six months between shifts, the Refresh Period is set to 6 months.

In the case of a department whose rosters aren't on HOPS (obviously these staff will do turns but HOPS won't know about it so they'll all go to 'lapsed') the Refresh Period should be the same time length as the Competence Length, so that nothing can ever lapse.

Remember that the refresh period is time-based and not year-based.If a railway requires a signalman to do a minimum of one turn per year, the refresh period will monitor that they do a turn within 12 months from their previous turn, not 'one turn in 2012' for example. If the user acquires their competence on 12/08/2011 and does not do the minimum turn for the rest of 2011 it will not show as lapsed. If they continue not to do a turn right up until 12/08/12 it will then show lapsed.

HOPS is continually being developed and updated. Sometimes the screen shots in these help files might lag behind the most up-to-date views of the screens. Generally, however, the functionality of the page will be the same, albeit with a slightly different format or layout.
