Supported Browsers
HOPS aims to providing a service that works across different operating systems, devices and browsers. The current 'New HOPS' project continues to re-write code using modern programming constructs to improve performance across devices. HOPS also aims to ensure that the service is as widely-compatible as possible, and commits to ensure the system works back to versions of mainstream browsers that are currently security-supported by their manufacturer. HOPS React web apps generally target the following web browsers: - the last 3 released stable versions of each supported browser (considered to be Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari) - any version of each supported browser where its total usage share is >0.5% - excluding any version of each supported browser that's had no official support in the past 24 months (even if the version is otherwise included by the criteria above) Viewport dimensions: - Minimum viewport width: 320px (scaled CSS equivalent) - Minimum viewport height: 480px (scaled CSS equivalent) It is not possible to list all versions of all devices, operating systems and browsers that are currently supported by their manufacturer. This can generally be found via Google, Wikipedia or the manufacturing company's website. In many cases, HOPS will work further back than this, but we do not commit for it to do so. Although we will not intentionally block older browsers/etc, we will not program new code to work on outdated systems. Why? - Browsers, operating systems and devices that are no longer supported by their manufacturers will no longer be receiving security updates and therefore may no longer be sufficiently secure or appropriate for access systems containing personal information. Such programs may also allow malicious software to manifest itself on the machine. To protect all users and their personal data (such is all our obligation), HOPS is not supported on insecure systems. - In some cases older browser versions cannot cope with present-day programming constructs, and to continue to support such out-of-date browsers would deprive those using updated browsers of those tools and stunt the development of HOPS for everyone's benefit. We do not intentionally or explicitly exclude browsers, it is just that some modern programming constructs don't work on older browsers. We will limit HOPS development if use of a modern tool or function means the system won't work on other currently-maintained versions of a browser, but not to satisfy browsers that are well beyond their life/security support. If, when you access HOPS, you obtain only the 'H', or a message saying that your device may be incompatible with HOPS, please check if your device, operating system and browser are still in-support. In most cases, updates can be obtained for free from the original supplier. If you believe your system is currently being security-maintained, please contact your HOPS Admin, giving details of the name and versions of each, and they will liaise with HOPS HQ to look into the issue. Browsers such as Chrome are updated once a month, so if a user is on anything other than the most recent version they are getting further and further behind each month. | ||
HOPS is continually being developed and updated. Sometimes the screen shots in these help files might lag behind the most up-to-date views of the screens. Generally, however, the functionality of the page will be the same, albeit with a slightly different format or layout.
