Update 1508 30 August 2026	HOPS Subscription Fees SUBSCRIPTION FEES HOPS subscription fees are normally adjusted in August each year, but you may have noticed that this has not taken place this year (2026). We held off revising the subscription fees in August 2026 while discussions about succession planning were ongoing. As things are starting to look a bit clearer in that respect now we are in a position to share details of HOPS price changes this year. There is quite a significant disparity between subscription fees paid by roughly-equivalent railways at present. This is due to factors such as various discounts being applied, the time in history at which a railway joined HOPS, and what other things have been negotiated over the years. To remedy this we initially planned to introduce a banded structure based on turnover, but as soon as this was advertised we were inundated with representation from railways about why various elements of turnover shouldn't be counted, and it was clear there was going to be ill feeling. Therefore we have taken a great deal of time to assess each subscriber individually and identify a fee change that brings everyone closer to paying an amount approximately the same as roughly-equivalent other subscribers. We hope that this is as fair as possible. If your fee increases, you will recognise that this reflects the fact that you have benefited from HOPS at a lower cost than other equivalent railways in previous years so will hopefully not feel aggrieved. DISCOUNTS We are pleased to be able to continue to offer a discount for subscribers that reliably pay by direct debit. This is being increased to 5%, reflecting the time saving that this provides for HOPS in chasing invoices. The Raildays Promotion Discount is also being increased to 5%. It is envisaged that both of these are in the control of the subscriber in the majority of cases. No action is needed to claim the Direct Debit Discount, if you are paying bills by this method then the discount will be applied automatically, and be shown on your invoice. The Raildays Promotion Discount requires opting-in, if you are opted-in the discount will be shown on your invoice. More details: https://www.hops.org.uk/help/raildays-promotion-programme The ticket sales discount recognises the significant contribution that this part of the system makes to HOPS's ongoing financial stability and ability to provide its services, and rewards the subscribers that enable this. This discount is achieved in increasing percentages from 5% to 30% on turning over of at least 20,000/year of payments which are processed via HOPS. Railways that have negotiated rates with HOPS, such as those who have recently joined, will retain their negotiated rate until August 2027. Organisations involved in multi-year deals will remain on those deals until the agreed end date. These organisations have been advised. FREE BASIC HOPS Basic HOPS stopped being offered for free some years ago, but a small number of small subscribers have retained this arrangement by 'grandfather rights'. Regrettably we are no longer in a position to offer this and, recognising that HOPS has developed significantly since this was the case, the Basic HOPS fee will apply from 1 March 2027.
