K&ESR Background

The K&ESR runs from Tenterden in Kent to it's current location in Bodiam East Sussex where the famous castle is located. The journey takes 1 hour and 15mins over 10 and a half miles of pure country-side. Our loco fleet consists of J94's USA yankee tanks, Terriers, P-class, Pannier other GWR loco's and a small amount of diesels including a Ford loco and class 33. The railway holds certain events throughout the year and runs most weekends up to the end of September. Please check www.kesr.org.uk for more information.

Role Description

Train Preparation,
book on, read all relevant notices, check the guards bag, check the train ETC.
Working trains,
work alongside trained guards, despatch trains, keep a log on arrival/departure times ETC.
Train Disposal,
Berth the train in the location detailed in the traffic notice, lock all doors, check handbrake is on ETC
There are a lot more tasks involved, but not enough room here to list them all, full training is provided.

Role Responsibilities

The overriding concern of all staff is that of the safety of passengers and railway staff, including your own. This is particularly important for the guard of the train.

Depending on commitment and ability to pick up the required skills reaching the grade of Guard can be achieved within 1 year to 18 months

Commitment

Ideally one or two turns per month, however this isn't a requirement, basically trainee's give dates of availability and get rostered on them dates

Skills

REQUIRED:	Can climb into coaches from ground level, Be able to lift heavy objects I.E coupling links, Buckeye couplings (full training will be given on these tasks), in good health and doesn't mind long days, Early starts or late finishes.
