KWVR Background

The KWVR is well known for "The Railway Children" in which the Railway (particularly Oakworth Station) featured heavily. Since the release of the film in the 70s the Railway has seen growing passenger figures and press interest alike.

The KWVR runs a number of special events throughout the year including two steam galas, one diesel gala and an enormously popular Beer and Music Festival.

In its short 5 miles, the Railway has over 30 bridges, 2 tunnels, 2 level crossings and 4 signal boxes. The KWVR own a collection of over 30 locomotives, have 6 beautifully restored stations and a very small number of paid staff.

All this infrastructure takes a lot of maintaining. There are currently over 500 volunteers on the books. We are always looking for any help anyone can give. Whether it's 1 day a year or 1 day a week (or anything in between!) we'd love to hear from you.
