E-mail Validation States

E-mail addresses are managed to ensure that information gets through to the right people.

VALID
The e-mail address has been validated by the user clicking a link in a validation e-mail they were sent when then e-mail address was added, to prove that they own it, and no problems have been experienced since.

INVALID
E-mail sent to this address have consistently bounced, and therefore it has been marked as invalid by HOPS. Further e-mails will not be sent to this address. The address cannot be revalidate. If you believe that an address has been invalidated incorrectly please contact us.

AWAITING VALIDATION
This e-mail address is newly-added, but the user has not clicking the validation link in the e-mail they were sent to prove that they own the address and wish to have e-mails sent to it. If the original validation e-mail has been lost a new one can be sent from the User Details page (for other users) or the My User Details page (for you) .

FORCED VALID
The e-mail address was entered by an administrator, and was forced to be valid at the time. E-mails will be sent to this address without any intervention from the user. The user would have been advised at the time that their address had been added and given details of how to opt-out.

VALIDATION SUPPRESSED
The e-mail address was entered by an administrator, and validation was prevented at the time. E-mails will not be sent to this address* and the user would not have been advised at the time that their address had been added. This status is designed for railways in the setting-up process. Note that validation suppressed only refers to the validation request e-mail. It does not stop the e-mail becoming valid by other means in the future (ie, the user using the 'send validation e-mail' option). (* - Note, this email address will be automatically changed to an 'Awaiting Validation' address if the user is upgraded from Offline to Live, and then user credentials will be sent to the email address.)

SUSPENDED
E-mail addresses may be suspended if they stop working for some non-permanent reason, such as inbox being full. When the problem has been sorted out, ie, by the user freeing up some space in their inbox, the address can be re-validated using the [Re-send Validation Email] link from the User Details page (for other users) or the My User Details page (for you) .



HOPS is continually being developed and updated. Sometimes the screen shots in these help files might lag behind the most up-to-date views of the screens. Generally, however, the functionality of the page will be the same, albeit with a slightly different format or layout.
